ABOUT THE AUTHOR & ARTIST
Carmen Evelyn G. Nuyda is a self-taught dressmaker who once specialized in couture, creating made-to-measure wedding gowns of timeless elegance. After more than a decade of research and deep immersion into the life of Elizabeth Keckley, she penned her debut novel—now being adapted and reimagined beyond the page as an immersive, experiential work that collapses time, memory, and embodiment.
She is currently completing her second work, Lovejoy, the first in a series that follows a modern-day woman whose search for meaning leads her into the remarkable and often-overlooked love story of Frederick and Anna Murray Douglass. Blending historical narrative with contemporary reflection, the novel explores themes of legacy, devotion, self-discovery, and the transformative power of love across generations.
A survivor of Multiple Sclerosis, Nuyda is also a devoted horsewoman, Reiki practitioner, and multidisciplinary artist with a deep love for poetry, literature, jazz, and the visual arts. She finds great joy in cooking for loved ones and profound fulfillment in motherhood, dedicating her days to raising her two daughters.
